Jet ski rescue

On Sunday February 15 at about 2pm, a 60-year-old male from Bayswater was riding a jet ski in Western Port Bay.

Returning to shore at Corinella, the jet ski ran aground on a sandbar in shallow water, which beached the jet ski, and stalled the engine.

The rider then became stranded.

The volunteer Coast Guard Western Port VF04 tried, but were unable to access the area due to the shallow water.

Police from the San Remo and Wonthaggi Police Stations attended to assist, as well as the police helicopter, with the rider winched from the area, and given a ride back to the car park.

Police said this was a good outcome, but a timely reminder for everyone to be aware of dangers and hazards at our local coast.

The rider was assessed and did not require medical treatment.
