Police update

New Year’s Day fracas
Two males (from Darnum and Warragul) were involved in an incident at the Cowes Pier east of the toilet blocks, around 4am on New Year’s Day. A fight escalated between the men and a group of teenagers.

Another assault took place around 1.37am at the BP service station in Cowes. Police said the two parties were known to each other.

Thefts
An eBike (without its battery) was stolen from The Esplanade in Cowes between January 6 and 7. A car in the vicinity was also broken into, although nothing was stolen. In Chapel Street, a bag of clothing, including ID was stolen from a car, after the side back window was smashed.

Deception
Between January 1 and 3, a credit card from a lost wallet was used for several transactions in Cowes, totally $760. Investigations are ongoing.

Number plates
There have been several reports of stolen number plates in San Remo, and police are reminding residents to make sure their number plates are securely attached. Police are looking to hold a “screw exchange program”, where existing plate screws are swapped for new one-way screws. It’s planned the events will be held in San Remo, on Phillip Island and the Waterline district.

Ocean Sounds
Police praised the crowd and organisers of the recent Ocean Sounds Festival on Churchill Island, describing it as “a great event”. Police attended both days in a supporting capacity and noted the excellent environmental practices.
“There was one skip for the tip from the whole weekend.”
