Bass Coast Health has confirmed a person has tested positive at the Cowes Drive Through Clinic.

CEO Jan Child said she expected a list of local exposure sites to be posted on the state government website shortly.

It’s believed the infected person visited places in San Remo and in Cowes.

Ms Child said BCH was working to increase the testing capacity of the drive through site at the Cowes Transit Centre.

The testing site is currently open and will operate today (Friday) through until 5pm.

Overnight a larger tent will be erected and testing times will be extended, with the site open from 7am until 5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Test times at the Wonthaggi Drive Through site will also be extended from 7am – 5pm.

She urged anyone experiencing any Covid symptoms, no matter how mild, to immediately get tested, then go straight home and isolate until they received their result.

“Please keep an eye on the list of exposure sites, as they can change as more information comes to hand,” Ms Child said.

“The biggest thing is to abide by the current rules.

“Stay home. Don’t go out unless it is for one of the five permitted reasons.

“One thing we know about this Delta strain is that transmission can happen from fleeting pathways, and that is likely to be the case here as well.

“So please, wear your mask properly and limit your movement wherever possible.”

It’s expected there will be a surge in demand today and over the weekend for Covid tests, so Ms Child asked people to be patient.

“We have got as many of our staff out at the testing sites as we can, but we expect there will be delays.

“Please bring a book and be patient.”

Hospital lockdown

As a precautionary measure, all Bass Coast Health facilities have been locked down and visitors have been restricted.

“We are trying to limit people coming into the hospital, but people should still come and get treatment if they need it.”
