From Cowes Primary School Principal, Rod McKenzie

A huge thank you to our past School Council president Brendan Cashman, current School Council president Carly O’Brien and other school council members who have played a key role in the project.

It was Brendan and Carly who worked strategically back in the early phases of 2018 to build a business case to highlight ‘why’ Cowes Primary School needed a facility like the one we have today.

Brendan’s vision and work behind the scenes certainly helped secure the election commitment.

There is no question the big winners who will benefit most from this new facility are Cowes students, especially our current Preps who will have access to this amazing facility for the duration of their primary school years.

The Phillip Island community will also benefit enormously given the growing population and large number of groups who have been crying out for more publicly accessible facilities for a long time.

I would like to thank both Project 12 Architecture and Becon Constructions for their diligence and hard work throughout the design phase and build. There was no doubt Project 12 brought a point of difference to the tender interview process which resulted in the appointment.

It is that point of difference that has carried through to give us a truly unique facility that incorporates the pool and beautiful sanctuary.

Thank you also to Luke from the VSBA for all his hard work.

Thank you to our amazing staff, especially our team of specialist teachers who navigated the move and disruption throughout Term 1 as they established their new learning spaces.

I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of Cowes Primary School. A school is not defined by the quality of its buildings, it’s defined by the quality of its teachers, and we are lucky to have a great team of teachers here at Cowes Primary School. That being said, we are incredibly fortunate that students receiving a public education at Cowes Primary School not only get access to great staff but also fantastic facilities including this beautiful new gymnasium, 25m pool and modern learning spaces. We are very lucky and should all be incredibly proud to be part of this great school.
