Infrastructure Victoria (IV) has recommended the government examine expanding the Wonthaggi desalination plant to meet water demand until 2035. By 2070 it is projected Greater Melbourne will need nearly double the water required in 2020, 62 per cent of which will come from manufactured sources such as desalinated water.
