Phillip Island Reserves emerge triumphant against Korumburra
Phillip Island: 4.4.28, 7.11.53, 12.14.86, 12.20.92. Korumburra-Bena: 0.0.0, 0.3.3, 0.3.3, 1.3.9.
Another fine Saturday morning disrupted by wind, wind and more wind greeted the Bulldogs in their round 10 clash with Korumburra.
As something of a novelty, four games of football beckoned with the visitors bringing a full complement of teams to the Kennel beginning with Under 16s at 9am.
The positions on the ladder indicated the games may be less than competitive, which was to be played out during the day.
With at least six players into the seniors from potential reserves ranks, and a rash of injuries to key players, the Bulldogs reserves needed some topping up.
And topped up they were, with Under 18s Henry Peppard and Sonny McMillan doubling up, whilst team manager Callan Scheibel came in for his first game!
As it turned out the Giants were pretty short themselves, topping up with a bunch of kids.
It was the Bulldogs who were to get the jump of the opposition, jumping out to a lead of 50 points by halftime, albeit with a number of loose shots at goal, rendering 11 behinds in the first half of the game.
Nevertheless, Harry (Slug) Anderson was having a day out with a couple and coach Nicolaci being his usual elusive self.
The third saw the trend continue, with Jack Opitz and Cooper Logan controlling the midfield, and Leon Matthews having his best game for the reserves for the year causing headaches for the opposition.
Henry Peppard up from the Under 18s proved effective, kicking a couple and Tyce Kleverkamp continued to provide ample drive for the home side.
The last saw the Bulldogs again show the effects of having a number of players with limited game time for the year.
Whilst continuing to attack throughout the last, the Bulldogs were only able to put on six behinds for the quarter, whilst the opposition managed to kick their only goal.
A credible effort from the Giants ultimately evened the quarter.
A final scoreline of 12 goals 20 behinds could easily have been a higher score, but a strong win for the Bulldogs overall.
