The Island proves too hot to handle for the Demons - Under 18s

On a spectacular sunny May Saturday, the Bulldogs ventured up the road to Koo Wee Rup to take on the Koo Wee Rup Demons for Round five.

Arriving at the ground without a breath of wind (a rare occurrence indeed), with the oval in superb condition, an exciting day of county football beckoned.

The second away game introduced a larger ground, so the new game style of the Bulldogs likely to be tested in the wide-open spaces again!

Under 18s

Mother’s Day round at Koo Wee Rup, sun shining and goals galore.

A great win from the Under 18s against a strong determined opponent.

The first quarter was even with Captain Finn Cashman busy around the stoppages and key forwards Jack Johnson and Jack Huther looking lively as they applied some initial scoreboard pressure.

The Island taking a small lead at the break.

Coach Huther was happy with the team’s efforts praising Noah Muller, Braydy Ross and Brayden Kleverkamp for their attack on the footy.

The second quarter was a tighter contest with Koo Wee Rup playing their best footy but the Island weathering the storm through Benji Chihotski, Leo Savona, Darcy Thompson, Kohen Beaumont and Henry Peppard all playing “Dogs” footy.

The second half opened up and the Island started to shine, constantly switching the ball and opening up the fat side, unleashing the silky skills of key midfielders Ross and Cashman who were putting it on a plate for their forward targets.

Late in the third quarter Jack Huther lodged his contender for goal of the year with a baulking boundary banana and Birthday Boy Johnson who pulled down a screamer to the delight of the U16 throng gathered behind the goals.

The last quarter saw the Island well on top, Muller was everywhere, Chihotski playing up from the 16s looked at home, and Arceo, Davies, Goldsbury, Kennedy and Caffieri were all in great touch.

A great win banked, no ceiling in place for this group of Island lads who could achieve greatness if they keep working hard and playing for each other.
