Rainbow joy on a winters day
Mykey O’Halloran and Denni Slorach saw a need to bring some joy to the local rainbow community.
Last year, In the aftermath of a number of homophobic and transphobic incidents in the local area, friends Mykey O’Halloran and Denni Slorach saw a need to bring some joy to the local rainbow community.
Much discussion followed on how best that this could be done, to include the Island community as a whole; and how to invite those who have not had much experience with LGBTIQA+ culture to get involved, and to meet new people.
Finally, Phillip Island Pride Events was born.
Their inaugural event was held at Cheeky Goose in Cowes last month and was a great success.
Drag queens Jemima Handful and Ruby Taboo brought fun, glitter, sparkles, laughter and joy to a packed house of over 80 guests, ranging in age from toddlers to those in their 70s.
Featuring classic and modern music tracks, the Queens brought the house down with each number. The five rounds of BINGO saw lucky audience members rewarded with cash and prizes ranging from $50 to $500 in value, but everyone in the audience left a winner after such great entertainment and a delicious lunch!
Phillip Island Pride Events plans to host monthly events to invite the whole community to let a little rainbow into their lives. The next event is on July 24th, tickets are available from www.trybooking.com/CATDU
