Raising funds for Chat and Chew

A special fundraiser on Saturday, March 5 is raising money to support the Chat and Chew Drop in Centre.

The “Strange Country” concert at 7pm at the Phillip Island Baptist Church in Settlement Road will feature the Steve Messer’s Strange Country Band.

Steve Messer’s Strange Country cooks flavours of country, blues and gospel into an original uptown-downhome, pre-post-modern, rhythm’n’bluegrass musical stew.

The band comprises songwriter Steve Messer (harmonica, mandolin, slide guitar, vocals), Steve Camp (guitar, vocals), Rod Boreham (bass, vocals), Michael Stritch (drums), Darryl Thompson (guitars, dobro, accordion, keyboards, vocals).

For over thirty years Strange Country has performed across Victoria and interstate, including many years appearing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Steve was twice the winner of the Hohner Golden Harmonica Championship at Tamworth, before being asked to judge the award in subsequent years.

The band’s album “Country Bazaar” earned them finalist nominations at the Tamworth “TIARA” awards and the Victorian Country Music Awards.

Strange Country has years of experience delighting audiences with their lively musical and conversational interplay, and songs rich in stories about life’s joys and struggles, hard times, high hopes and the triumph of faith.

Saturday, March 5 from 7pm at Phillip Island Baptist Church/ 106/112 Settlement Road, Cowes (cnr Dunsmore Road). Cost $10 pp or $20 per family.
