The Rhyll Mechanics Hall has received a Universal Design grant from the state government to help improve accessibility at the facility.

The $100,000 grant will go towards a $390,000 project that includes new accessible toilets and improved storage area. Universal designed access pathways will also provide access from the car park to the hall and public toilet facilities for hall and reserve users. The Rhyll reserve includes the Rhyll Mechanics Hall, tennis courts, playground and BBQ facilities.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that the funding is much needed.

“This is a great outcome for the Rhyll community.

“We appreciate the support from the Victorian government to help fund universal design improvements for our community assets. I’d like to thank Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Colin Brooks and Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale MP for their support of this project.

“Council has committed to accessible infrastructure renewal through our Access, Equity and Inclusion plan 2021-2025 as a priority,” Cr Whelan said.

“Council officers completed training on universal design principles and it was highlighted early in this project that a number of changes were required to make this site more accessible. These type of funding opportunities are so important to assist in our asset upgrades.”
