Cowes Primary School celebrated Ride 2 School Day on March 20.

The streets of Cowes and surrounds were a sea of bikes, scooters and skateboards as students pedalled to class.

The school has been participating in this event for over 10 years. Many families left the car at home and chose to ride, walk, scoot or skate their way to school, creating a vibrant and active start to the day.

Students travelled from all corners of Phillip Island, with some even making the journey from as far as Cape Woolamai. Along the way, groups of riders were supported at various checkpoints, helping to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone involved.

Cowes Primary School would like to thank its supporting staff and the Phillip Island Bicycle Users Group (BUG) for their assistance in helping students ride safely from different parts of the island.

"Events like Ride 2 School Day highlight the many benefits of active travel," a school spokesperson said.

"Not only does it promote physical health and fitness, but it also supports mental wellbeing, reduces traffic congestion around schools, and helps students arrive energised and ready to learn.

"Cowes Primary School looks forward to continuing to encourage active travel and building a healthy, connected school community."
