Road closure mooted to stop “illegal activities”
By barricading this section of a San Remo road, council hopes to stop any further antisocial behaviour.

A “highly dangerous” section of Lookout Road, San Remo, will be closed because of “illegal activities”, under a proposal by Bass Coast Shire.

The shire is currently seeking community feedback on the proposal, which is open until April 4, with council to vote on the issue in May or later.

The proposal will restrict vehicles to the parking area and a 200-metre section of the road.

A shire spokesperson said if supported, the road would be closed to “ensure the safety of our community by ending its highly dangerous use for illegal activities – including fires, joyriding, littering and more”.

“By barricading the affected area council hopes to stop any further antisocial behaviours, which have negatively impacted the local community including businesses such as nearby farms, residents, and visitors,” the spokesperson said.

Feedback on the proposed closure can be in writing by completing an online submission form, or writing to the Asset Officer Roads, Bass Coast Shire, PO Box 118 Wonthaggi VIC 3995, or via email to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Anyone who requests to be heard in support of their submission can be heard before council or be represented by a person acting on their behalf.
