Savage court appearance adjourned

Committal mentions for Joshua and Taylor Savage scheduled for January 7 at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court were adjourned until March 4.

A committal mention is a preliminary hearing before a full committal hearing. At a committal mention, the magistrate determines whether any or all of the charges can be heard and finalised in the Magistrates’ Court, or may order the accused to be committed to trial at the County Court or Supreme Court.

The Savage brothers are charged with stealing $650,000 in 19 separate robberies across Phillip Island and South Gippsland. In August 2020, the men were remanded in custody, with the judge describing them as an unacceptable risk to the community.

They successfully appealed for bail to the Supreme Court in September and were granted bail subject to a series of conditions, including not travelling to Bass Coast or South Gippsland unless permitted by police.
