Cape Woolamai’s Scarlett Rennie aced it at the Rip Curl Gromsearch competition at Jan Juc on the weekend.

The talented young surfer not only won the Under 12 Girls competition, she also recorded the only 10-point ride of the competition and picked up the DHD Ultimate Grom Award.

Scarlett didn’t hold back during the competition and in her semifinal, took off on five waves and didn’t score below a 9.00 point ride on all of them.

On her second wave of the heat, she collected the highest score of the entire competition, a 10 point ride.

With this momentum, she went into the finals looking like the one to beat.

In the final, she waited patiently out the back looking for another set wave just like those in her earlier heat. Eventually she found a wave to complete a large swooping forehand re-entry. This committed manoeuvre earned her an 8.33 point ride and the win.

“I love big waves more than smaller waves so I was happy with the larger swell,” said Scarlett.

With excellent performances throughout the whole day, she was awarded the DHD Ultimate Grom Award and earned herself a Mick Fanning signature board model DHD DNA surfboard.

In the Under 12 boys competition, Phillip Island’s Ryan Hain made it through to the semi-finals. The winner was Jaxxon Sands from NSW.

The Under 16 Boys was won by Jackson Woolnough of NSW, while Ava Holland from Dromana won the Girls final.

The winner of the Under 14 Boys was Locana Cullen of NSW, while the Girls was won by Lani Cairncross of NSW.
