It was a sea of purple in the new club bathers, as 117 swimmers raced in GSI 2 at Leongatha Splash on Sunday.

The event was a great opportunity for many of the newer swimmers to compete in an environment, that for many who train there, is very familiar to them and helps build up their confidence.

There were a number of new families, or younger siblings racing for the first time, but the club prides itself as a family club and there was plenty of help for the newbies.

The other Gippsland clubs ventured to the meet, with swimmers coming from Moe, Morwell, Sale, Warragul, Traralgon and East Gippsland.

The events at Splash are always very popular and well attended, with swimmers needing to attend three GSI meets to swim at the Gippsland Championships in March and with this being one of the rare

Sunday meets it was perfect for those who play Saturday sports.

It was not just the swimmers enjoying the day, but the officials for the day included several new SGB parents who have been training and stepped up for the first time to become Marshals, judges and officials.

It wasn t just the kids racing, with several parents, including coaches Dylan, Lorri and Sarah racing and inspiring their charges.

There was a lot of cheering from the sidelines from their students, keen so see which coach was the fastest.

For some of the older swimmers, there was fierce competition between them and their coach with it coming right down to the touch.

The were many excited SGB swimmers, with a number placing and taking home a collection of ribbons and others improving their times with new PBs.

The event was a great success, and the club looks forward to welcoming everyone back in a month s time.
