SGB lead District 21 team to victory
This week's SGB club news.
SGB lead the way in the Country District Competition, with 22 SGB swimmers being a part of the 89 swimmers making up the District 21 team.
The team consists of the fastest eight swimmers in each of the 8-11 years age groups from the seven clubs throughout Gippsland.
Emily Croatto and Archie Smyth had the honour of leading District 21 as team captains and were delighted to accept the winning trophy on behalf of the team.
SGB’s Lorri McKenzie and Sam O'Keefe helped coach the Gippsland team with Janelle Smyth as Team Manager.
Lorri and Sam both enjoy the district competition and bringing all the clubs juniors from Gippsland together as one team.
Those selected to represent District 21 from SGB were Emily Croatto, Jaya Dowel, Daisy Gilliam-Rodda, Cayden Gunn, Callum Hackett, Hannah Hunt, Ava Lucas, Austin Lynch, Ethan Lynch, Fletcher McRae, Hunter McRae, Reece McRae, Anna Mileto, Brooklyn Packer, Mitchell Packer, Ruby Pirouet, Josie Richer, Mya Richer, Archie Smyth, Darby Smyth, Jedda Tagell and Mathew Thornby.




The team raced against the best from regional Victoria at MSAC in 50m races in their age groups.
District 21, Gippsland once again won the day.
For many of the younger swimmers, it was their first-time racing at MSAC and has given them valuable racing experience.
D21 dominated the relays, coming 1st in the Freestyle relays for age 8, 9, 10 and 11 Girls along with the 8, 9 and 12 Boys - with 10B claiming 2nd.
In the Medley, 1st place went to the 10 and 11 Girls and Boys along with 2nd to the 8 and 9 Girls and Boys.
Individual winners:
11 Girls: Emily Croatto – 2nd Backstroke, 2nd Breaststroke and 3rd Butterfly.
11 Boys: Archie Smyth – 2nd Backstroke and 3rd Freestyle.
10 Girls: Josie Richer – 3rd Breaststoke.
8 Girls: Ruby Pirouet – 3rd Butterfly.
8 Boys: Austin Lynch – 2nd Breaststroke, 2nd Butterfly and 3rd Breaststoke.
Mathew Thornby: 3rd Butterfly.
