It was a hectic day in the pool as the 82 SGB swimmers raced in the 50m pool for the first time since last summer.

A full schedule had some swimmers attempting to get times for countries, national and state championships, while others got to race in 50m pool for the first time – a daunting experience for them as they look all the way down to the other end of a much longer pool than they are used to.

Racing for the squad varied from 400m races to 50m races, with a variety of events being one of the themes of the meet.

Coaches Sam and Dylan were on hand to help guide the swimmers through the day and give feedback on their performances.

They were very pleased with their swimmers’ efforts today, with the work they have been putting in at training showing.

Sam was really pleased with the juniors’ efforts for the day.

“I am really impressed with the new kids who haven’t swum in a 50m pool before, who took on the challenge and did well.

“It’s really good to see kids doing a variety of races.”

Dylan was pleased to see the older swimmers giving their best towards qualifying championship times.

“This is their first time back in a 50m pool for many and they have done much better than they often do at the first long course meet this year.

“Over the next eight-week block before states, I think there will be a huge number who qualify for states and hopefully nationals.”

It was smiles by the end of the day as the swimmers went home with many qualifying times achieved for the championships in coming months.

As well as the juniors who were proud to have made it to the other end.
