SGB strives for success in Traralgon
SGB swimming team had a great weekend at the GSI 8 swim event held at Traralgon.

It was a fun weekend for the 54 SGB swimmers competing in GSI 8 at Traralgon on Saturday.

The meet was the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the State Age Championships next month, with many swimmers giving their all in their races, hoping to meet the qualifying times for the event.

There were also a number of swimmers trying to get qualifying times for the Country Championships in January.

The District 21 group, selected as they were swimmers close to getting qualifying times, did a special training session in the morning and then competed in the break to try to get their qualifying times.

There was a lot of excitement and cheering from the stands as family and fellow club members cheered them on, with several swimmers achieving their times.

There were also a number of younger swimmers who were still gaining their confidence while swimming in the 50m pool, with more PBs and even greater experience.

The young swimmers were supported by the older members of their clubs, hoping to one day emulate their performances.

With University and Year 11 and 12 exams over, the club has been happy to welcome back some of its older swimmers who are now competing in a couple of weeks of competition so they can race at Gippies in March.

Next weekend racing heads to Melbourne for the State Sprint Championships, where those who have qualified will race in just 50m races on Saturday, with the top 10 returning for finals on Sunday.
