Shannons SpeedSeries head to Phillip Island
The Shannons SpeedSeries returns this month with a visit to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on May 12-14.
After two highly entertaining rounds in 2023, the Shannons SpeedSeries returns this month with a visit to the famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on May 12-14.
Six categories will feature across the jam-packed weekend, which will include three days of non-stop racing action and a collection of popular national categories.
There will be something for everyone with the six categories in action across the weekend including the Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars and Monochrome GT4 Australia Series, the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS, the National Trans Am Series and the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series.
It will be the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series’ first appearances in the Shannons SpeedSeries for a long time, with the category to welcome a solid field for the first of five rounds, including Jim Pollicina, who has his sights set on winning the newly branded V8 Touring Car Cup.
“My intent is to go out there and focus on achieving an outright podium in every single race, but winning the privateers cup is of course an absolute priority at this stage,” Pollicina said.
“It is always good if you can do well in the outright, it always depends on circumstances in each race, but we are heading to Phillip Island to make up as many places as possible and get ourselves a result.”
All the other categories have featured in the Shannons SpeedSeries this year already, including The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, National Trans Am Series and S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship which all featured in February’s AWC Race Tasmania.
Both the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars and Monochrome GT4 Australia Series have enjoyed events more recently.
The GT World Challenge Australia enters Phillip Island for its third outing for the season after rounds at Bathurst and the Bosch Power Tools Perth Supersprint late last month.
As for the Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars and Monochrome GT4 Australia Series, the combined category made its first appearance at the Hi Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hours and will also welcome a strong field.
For those who are unable to make the trip to Phillip Island, Stan Sport will provide live and uninterrupted coverage from most of Saturday and Sunday’s action, while 9Gem will also broadcast three hours of Saturday afternoon’s racing.
Tickets for the event are available for purchase via motorsporttickets.com.au
