Melaleuca Aged Care is inviting people from across Phillip Island and the Bass Coast to become volunteers and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents.
For more than 45 years, Melaleuca has cared for and supported older members of the community, with volunteers playing an important role in creating the welcoming and connected environment residents enjoy today.
Volunteer opportunities are varied and flexible, allowing people to contribute in ways that suit their interests and availability.
Volunteers may share hobbies, play cards and board games, assist with lifestyle activities, help in the gardens, share musical talents or simply spend time chatting with residents and building friendships.
No previous experience is required, and Melaleuca provides training, support and ongoing guidance to ensure volunteers feel confident in their role.
While volunteering brings enormous benefits to residents, many volunteers find the experience equally rewarding.
It offers the chance to build new friendships, hear remarkable life stories and strengthen connections within the local community.
One person who understands the value of volunteering is Joy Niven, who recently received the Bass Coast Community Leader Award in recognition of her 50 years of volunteer service at Melaleuca and other community organisations.
"Volunteering isn't just about giving your time, it's been an absolute pleasure for me. Melaleuca is such a special place, and I'd encourage anyone with a few hours to spare to experience the rewards of volunteering for themselves," Joy said.
Melaleuca CEO Kerry Scarlett said volunteers make a lasting difference by helping residents stay connected to their community.
"Volunteers bring friendship, connection and meaningful moments that enrich the lives of our residents every day," Kerry said.
The expansion of a volunteer program comes as Melaleuca celebrates achieving a 5-Star rating from the Aged Care Quality Commission.
The rating recognises strong performance across areas including quality of care, resident experience, staffing and compliance.
"This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers and the trust our residents and families place in us every day." Kerry said.
As a small, community-owned aged care home, Melaleuca sees volunteers as an essential part of its ongoing success.
