Bass Coast Shire has clarified a public notice in a February edition of the Advertiser.
The notice stated the shire “intends on or after 19 March 2024, to sell or transfer to itself, ALL THAT piece of land” at 1 Tunbridge Street, Rhyll, with further legal details supplied.
Last week a shire spokesperson said council may sell land to recover unpaid rates or charges if “any amount due to a council for, or in respect of, rates or charges (including enforcement costs and interest) in respect of any rateable land is more than three years overdue; andno current arrangement, including a payment plan, exists for the payment of the amount to the council”.
This also applies if the council has a court order requiring the payment of the amount.
