Bass Coast Shire Council has launched Shop Eat Love Local, its latest initiative to promote and support local business.
The launch comes with an exciting competition with the entire community invited to get involved.
Council said the Shop Eat Love Local campaign encourages residents to support local businesses, to strengthen the community's economy and address the spend leakage identified in the region.
According to Council’s State of the Shire report, 27 per cent of residents’ money is spent outside the region. This results in reduced employment opportunities, decreased economic growth and less investment in the local community.
“Shop Eat Love Local aims to tackle this issue by encouraging our community to support local businesses to invest in the local economy, which ultimately leads to a stronger, more vibrant Bass Coast community,” a Council spokesperson said.
“To launch our new campaign, Council is running a competition until September 30 for all our dedicated, local shoppers.
“Customers who spend $20 or more at participating local businesses can enter a monthly draw for a chance to win a $200 hamper of local products, provided by Council.”
A random draw for winners will take place monthly, with prize winners announced via www.shopeatlovelocal.com.au and the Bass Coast Shire Council social media channels.
“One hundred and fifteen businesses across Bass Coast have already signed up to participate in the competition, and we invite more to join us,” the Council spokesperson said.
“By shopping locally, residents not only support these businesses and our local economy, but also contribute to a stronger, more resilient Bass Coast community.”
