Community history awards

Entries for the 2022 Victorian community history awards close on July 8.

The awards celebrate people involved in community history projects dedicated to telling local stories. Prizes range from $1500 - $5000.

Nominate your senior of the year

Nominations for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards are now open until July 29.

You can nominate residents aged 60 and above and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians aged 50 years and above. Categories cover multiculturalism, healthy living, veterans, ageing well and community contribution. seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/awards.


Sporting club funding

Sporting club grants are available to help community sport clubs with purchasing new uniforms and equipment, training, and club development.

Clubs can apply for grants of up to $1000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5000 to better club operations.

Grants for regional start-ups

Cash grants are now available through Victoria’s startup agency LaunchVic to help more start-up activity in the regions.

Grants of up to $300,000 are on offer for programs that promote startup entrepreneurship to regional Victorians, and local councils, business chambers and regionally based innovation hubs are encouraged to apply.

Road safety grants

Applications are open for the 2022 Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Local Government Grant Program, offering funding to local councils for projects that aim to reduce death and serious injury in pedestrians and cyclists.

Grants of up to $30,000 for analysis projects, and up to $100,000 for infrastructure projects are available.

Australian of the Year

Public nominations for the 2023 Australian of the Year Awards are open until midnight July 31.

The Australian of the Year Awards rely on nominations from members of the public to find individuals who are contributing to our nation. There are four categories: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian (65+), Young Australian (16-30) and Local Hero.

Honouring our mental health heroes

Nominations are open for the Australian Mental Health Prize, which seeks to recognise the important and ground-breaking work many Australians are doing for mental health, with expanded categories this year.

Nominators will answer three questions about the nominee’s contribution to mental health and how it is making an impact. Entries close August 1. Nominate at australianmentalhealthprize.org.au.


Music Works grants

Grants of between $4000 and $40,000 are available for activities including recording and releasing new music, presenting music events, marketing and business development under the state government’s Music Works program.

More women in council

Applications are open for the Women Leading Locally program, designed to encourage more women to run for council.

The program aims to help develop leadership skills, provide participants with ongoing mentoring and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful local government campaign.

Bass Coast is one of 30 municipalities where women were most under-represented. To kickstart the program, there will be a series of online and in-person seminars.

Women who are aboriginal, live with disability or identify as LGBTQI+ are encouraged to apply. localgovernment.vic.gov.au.


Regional health panel

La Trobe University is seeking members for a new regional and rural health consumer panel.

The panel will help researchers understand the health issues affecting rural and regional Australians, and panel members will help develop solutions for health and wellbeing challenges.

You can join by completing the online registration survey. Anyone aged 18 and over who lives in regional or rural Australia can be involved. There is no deadline to apply and no limit to the number of panel members.

Telstra Best of Business Awards

Nominations for the 2023 Telstra Best of Business Awards are open.

The Awards program celebrates the innovation and creativity of Australian small and medium-sized businesses.

There are seven award categories plus an overall national winner. Categories include: Accelerating Women, Building Communities, Championing Health, Embracing Innovation, Indigenous Excellence, Outstanding Growth and Promoting Sustainability.

Junior Landcare

2022 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants are now open.

Schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, scouts, girl guides, youth and junior landcare groups can apply for grants that provide up to $5000 for projects focused on Victoria’s biodiversity.

Grant applications close on Tuesday August 9.
