Snappy Readers of Rhyll were delighted by the visit to their recent meeting by renowned author Alli Parker to discuss her latest novel "Until the red leaves fall".
The story is set in 1957 in Melbourne's vibrant theatre world and focuses on the life of scriptwriter Emmy Darling as she finds her place doing the work she loves, out of her husband's shadow.
There are many twists and turns in this story that introduces us to such a variety of characters with colourful backgrounds and lifestyles.
As the story progresses, we learn that Emmy's real name is Emiko Tanaka and that she is from a Japanese Australian family.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, they were arrested by the Australian government, which resulted in them being separated and sent to different internment camps.
Emmy is given an opportunity to tell her story but then she is challenged by just how much to reveal.
No more spoilers ... enjoy the read for yourself!
We also had the opportunity to talk about Alli's first book, "At the foot of the cherry tree", a beautiful story of how her grandparents met and how they changed Australian government policy.
Snappy Readers wish Alli all the success with her next book... we can't wait to read it.
