Socialise and save our seabirds

On June 17, Bass Coast Landcare Network will hold its Hooded Plover Conservation Dinner at The Gurdies Winery, and tickets are on sale now.
Don’t miss this opportunity for an evening of socialising and catching up with your community, with the added benefit of raising awareness and funds to support the survival of our iconic Hooded Plovers across Bass Coast and beyond.
Bass Coast Landcare Network is a grass-roots network of staff and volunteers who actively provide solutions to pressing environmental challenges. It operates locally, with a small but dedicated team.
This year and through this dinner, they are working to raise funds to go towards the Hooded Plover conservation program.
This program has seen the numbers of ‘vulnerable’ local Hooded Plovers increase steadily and then double in the past year. The program itself, however, is now at risk as critical funds have not been renewed.
“The primary activity in this program is the removal of foxes, which are a major predator of these small beach-dwelling and nesting birds, not only killing adults and chicks, but also eating their eggs,” a Network spokesperson explained.
“Through fox trapping and baiting alongside coastal areas, we have removed a significant number of foxes, which has given the Hooded Plover a huge boost in numbers.
“We hope you will join us for this exciting event, including dinner, dancing, and an auction to help raise funds to continue this important work. This is your chance to help save the iconic ‘Hoodies’, one of our most vulnerable, local, beach nesting birds.”
The evening will include a gourmet two-course meal with local produce, wine, and beer. You can enjoy live music and dancing, plus join in on the fundraising auction to snag yourself some fantastic items kindly donated by local organisations and businesses.
Confirmed auction items include a Phillip Island Nature Parks 4 Parks Pass, Seal Rocks Cruise tickets with Wildlife Coast Cruises, and a two-night stay at Silverwater Resort to name a few. As a bonus, all attendees to this event will receive a 20 per cent off voucher for Silverwater Resort accommodation.
More action items will be confirmed in coming weeks so keep an eye out on the Bass Coast Landcare Network Social media pages for the latest updates and additions to this exciting event.
Book a full table, sponsor a corporate table or bring the family. Tickets are $90 for adults, and $20 for children under 12.
