The 28th Autumn Carnival Bowls Carnival was held from April 26 to May 2, and the competitors came from all over Victoria, one from as far away as Wycheproof.
All in all, around 150 players from over fifty clubs took part.
The standard of play was exceptional and with an influx of new younger players from the Metropolitan clubs the competition was always going to be fierce and full on as two of the events now have Bowls Australia ranking points.
It is worth noting that Singles winner Colin Veenendaal had to play an extra end in the quarter and semi-finals just to make the final play-offs.
Phillip Island was delighted to welcome Thor Shannon (currently ranked number two in Australia) to compete in the triples, singles and four’s events and wish him well in his endeavour to become number one.
This Carnival has once again raised the bar as has become the custom by continuing to take a pro-active approach to event organisation and management.
After twenty-seven years as Tournament Director Robin Blackman has passed the baton to Mike Smith who served his apprenticeship assisting Robin.
Robin received many complimentary comments from many of those taking part, some who had been attending this event since he took it over.
Major sponsors of the 2021 event were O’Brien Real Estate Judith Wright, Bendigo Bank and Harvey Norman and the club acknowledges their support with much appreciation.
It was interesting to note that most players nominated the Phillip Island Ladies as providing the best quality tournament catering and many of them used this as a standard when considering where they play.
