Last Saturday evening (March 23) the Phillip Island Breakers Soccer Club gathered to honour the memory of former player, Jake Munday who passed away last year.
Hosted at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve, the tribute game - organised as a gesture of solidarity and support for the Munday family - saw an overwhelming turnout, a testament to the impact Jake had on the community and the club.
Jake's passion and dedication for soccer began in childhood, his dad, Mark Munday recalls, "having fun with the ball started at an early age for Jake, he loved his soccer".
In honour of Jake's memory, the club announced the dedication of a trophy in his name.
Awarded annually, the trophy will recognise a junior player who demonstrates passion, respect, teamwork and versatility - qualities that were synonymous with Jake during his time at the club.
The Breakers stated that, "Jake and his family had been a part of our club for a number of years and contributed to our club in such a positive way."
Mark expressed his gratitude for the support, from both the community and the soccer club.
"It was great to be among all those fond memories again, watching his soccer mates, peers and team play a game they love in memory of our dear Jake," he said.
