Under 16s
In the final game before the Christmas break, the Under 16s took on Korumburra in a 20/20 at Cowes. Winning the toss, captain Kohen Beaumont decided to bat.
The Korumburra opening bowlers struggled to deal with the slippery conditions, bowling numerous wides and loose deliveries which were obligingly dispatched by openers Kohen Beaumont and William Peppard.
The pair combined for a fantastic opening partnership of 61, before William was out caught, chasing fast runs as the innings entered its middle stages.
Max Arceo joined Kohen at the crease, and with conditions drying out in the morning sun, the Korumburra spinners worked them back into the game. Bowling a tight line, the scoring dried as fast as the once slippery wicket, with Burra's Toby Gale bowling a fine spell of off spin and recording figures of four overs 2 for 13.
But, whilst the game tightened, captain Kohen Beaumont paid no heed to surmounting pressure. Peeling off another chanceless innings of 40 retired, Kohen pushed further for claims as one of the competition's finest batsmen.
Shortly thereafter, the innings came to a close, with a respectable score of 105 on the board.
With the now favourable conditions for bowling, the Sharks made a shaky start with the ball.
Led by Burra captain JZ Checkley, the score was already 22 runs after just two overs.
But to Tim Niven's credit, after going for 14 in his first over, he then delivered his following three overs, for just three runs.
That pattern continued, as the Sharks continued to bowl with discipline throughout the innings.
Pleasingly, there was some fine catching from Ollie Hibbert and Tim Niven and despite a solid 40 retired by Burra captain JZ Checkley, they were never really in the chase, finishing with 91 runs.
All in all, a solid and pleasing performance by the team.
It sets things up for a run to the finals in the new year.
Good luck boys!
