U16
It was the first wet and windy day of the season as the U16 Bulldogs took on Koo Wee Rup.
With the wind blowing across the ground, neither side gained much advantage, setting the stage for a gritty contest.
The opening quarter was a tight tussle in the slippery conditions, with a late goal from Ry Scott giving Phillip Island a narrow five-point lead at the first break.
The Bulldogs were held goalless through the second and third quarters, but their defence stood strong, conceding just one goal thanks to outstanding efforts from Joe Kelsey and Felix Bathgate across the backline.
Trailing by three points heading into the final term, the Bulldogs dug deep.
A clutch goal from Sam O’Garey with three minutes to go put the Island five points ahead.
But in a heartbreaking finish, Koo Wee Rup pushed forward in the dying seconds and slotted a goal after the siren to steal the win.
