
Phillip Island Seniors Captain Jaymie Youle leads his team out on to the ground to play his 200th game for Phillip Island, against Kilcunda Bass. At the end of the game, Jaymie was celebrating a great win for his team, as well as being named winner of the Garry Todd medal, which is presented annually to man of the match after the traditional Kilcunda Bass versus Phillip Island opening round.

Phillip Island Reserves player Jim “Pup” Lees is cheered off the ground after playing his one hundredth game for the Island Reserves on Easter Saturday. His children Caylin and Alex who accompanied him off the ground, could not have been prouder.

Phillip Island Seniors coach Beau Vernon is pictured with Jess Gislingham, who was given the task of unfurling the 2019 WGFNL premiership flag, at the island’s season opener against Kilcunda Bass on Easter Saturday. Jess unfurled the flag, albeit a year later than intended because of the Covid lockdown last year, in honour of his pop, Jim Gislingham, a Club stalwart volunteer who manned the footy gate for 30 years. Jim passed away during last year’s lockdown. The Gislingham family also donated the ball that Jess is carrying for the senior team’s first game of the season, in honour of Jim’s memory.

A special ceremony for Phillip Island seniors took place before the Club’s first match of the year against Kilcunda Bass. The new faces were welcomed and presented with their jumpers by Club legend Steve Duggan. From left: Damien Holmes, Daniel Pearce, Luke James, Lachie Gay and Max Blake.

B Grade netballers had a convincing win against Killy-Bass in the first game for the season. Emma Felsovary shooting for goal.

It was a big day for Orlando Kane Gillard on Easter Saturday, playing his first game for the island seniors. Orlando, with his mum Lisa Kane at the special jumper presentation, went on to kick four goals in his first senior match. Orlando proudly wears number 31, made famous by the late Keith De Looze, three decades ago.

Kai McKenzie accepted the Number 5 jumper from his very proud mum Emily McKenzie, as he prepared for his first game as an island senior player in season 2021.
Footy and Netball returns, in glorious conditions!
Many thousands turned out for the first game of the footy/netball season at the Cowes Recreation Reserve on Easter Saturday, in glorious autumn conditions.
After a year in hiatus, the excitement was palpable as the district’s young football and netball players took to the ground, with four football and six netball sides playing on the day against neighbouring Kilcunda Bass.
The 2019 flag was unfurled by Jess Gislingham, in honour of his pop Jim Gislingham, who manned the gate rain, hail or shine at the ground for the Club for the past 30 years.
Jim passed away during the Covid lockdown.
New players were presented with their jumpers for the season, and the traditional Garry Todd Medal was awarded to senior’s captain Jaymie Youle, also playing his 200th game for Phillip Island.
All in all, a glorious day, and as they say … Let The Games Begin.
