Footy and Netball returns, in glorious conditions!
Many thousands turned out for the first game of the footy/netball season at the Cowes Recreation Reserve on Easter Saturday, in glorious autumn conditions.
After a year in hiatus, the excitement was palpable as the district’s young football and netball players took to the ground, with four football and six netball sides playing on the day against neighbouring Kilcunda Bass.
The 2019 flag was unfurled by Jess Gislingham, in honour of his pop Jim Gislingham, who manned the gate rain, hail or shine at the ground for the Club for the past 30 years.
Jim passed away during the Covid lockdown.
New players were presented with their jumpers for the season, and the traditional Garry Todd Medal was awarded to senior’s captain Jaymie Youle, also playing his 200th game for Phillip Island.
All in all, a glorious day, and as they say … Let The Games Begin.
