U14 Blue
Like a scene out of the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy was flying away with Toto at the Korumburra Oval.
That wind was unbelievable.
The Doggies had eight players out, so it was going to be tough.
From the first ball toss, the game was on.
Phillip Island had the wind and the Doggies capitalised.
A great tap from Hayden Power to Captain Heath Bowen had the ball in the forward line.
Flynn Denge took on three Burra players and kicked a great goal.
A similar move but with Harvey Strachen and Riley Herbert linking well, pushed the ball forward and Flynn had his second.
Strong work by Jem "Maddog" Hennekam, Sam Fairthorn, Bryce and Duke Lawrence had the ball moving forward at all times.
Doggies up by a few.
Burra had the wind in the second and it was their turn.
Strong work up back by Jesse "Mr. Dependable" Morshetti, Joe "The General" Kelsy and Mr. Football Archie Williams did their best, but the wind was too strong.
At one stage, Henhouse kicked the ball forward, only to have the ball flying back over his head!
Burra up by one.
The third quarter started, and the Doggies just couldn't kick straight with the wind, it was awful.
Maxy "I can never run enough" Jess, Al Szymanksi and Angus McLure teamed well for a Heath Bowen goal, but that's the only one they could get.
The Doggies added another 3 points for the quarter.
The last quarter was a struggle.
Marley Cabello was instructed to not pick up the ball but use his soccer prowess to nutmeg as many kids as possible as the wind was removing roofs at one stage.
Glen the Doggies runner, had to put five kilograms of weights in some of the kids shorts, to stop them blowing away!
We had to do a head count at the end, to make sure we didn't lose any.
Burra by 5 points.
Best: Flynn Henhouse, Sam Fairthorn, Jem, Max and Al.
