Oliva Curtain from Rhyll is preparing to represent Victoria on the national stage after earning selection for the 2025 Australian Interschool Championships in Sydney.

Olivia, who is in Year 9 at Haileybury Pangea, has just been named to the Victorian Equestrian team and will compete at the prestigious championships in September.

She secured her spot following a standout performance at the recent five-day Petstock Interschool State Championships, held at Boneo Park.

Olivia began riding when she was just eight years old and now trains four or five times a week on her 12-year-old mare, Ngahiwi-Lady Blu.

She fits in training, competing and caring for her horse around her online schooling schedule, showing a level of discipline well beyond her years.

“I love everything about horses, riding and competing,” Olivia said.

“Training and improving your skills is hard work, but so rewarding. It’s an amazing feeling when you finally nail something you’ve been working on.”

Olivia currently has three competition horses and often trains for at least three hours a day.

Her selection is a reflection of her dedication, commitment and love for the sport.

“I’m so proud to be part of the Victorian team, and I would love to represent Australia at the Youth Olympics and the Olympic Games one day,” she said.

The former Newhaven College student’s passion and work ethic make her one to watch in Australia’s rising equestrian ranks.
