U14 Blue finish on a high!
3 min read

Well, the last game of the season had arrived and I'm unsure who was more upset, the coaching staff or the kids.

Alas, here we are and away we went.

The usual rev up from Captain Kai and his deputies was there and the kids were rearing to go, but Killy Bass had other ideas.

A quick tap, and streaming kick forward, caught the Doggies forward line napping like a two-month-old puppy and Killy were on the board with a great goal.

The coaching staff even missed it and had to ask Irene "Always on the go" Kelsy, the team manager what happened.

This shocked the doggies into gear and away they went.

Great ball movement from Sammy O, Henhouse and Levi had the ball in the Heater direction.

A shake to the left and a shimmy to the right and Heater had his first.

A loud "Come on" roared out and it sounded like Leyton Hewitt was on the field.

A similar move and Flynn Dengerink had his first and the doggies were away.

The doggies piled on three more for the quarter and a couple of points, to take a strong lead.

Duke and Bryce Lawrence, Harvey Strachan, Riley Herbert and Zane Matthews were battling hard in the midfield all quarter to repel any Killy Bass advances.

The second quarter was much the same.

Al "tough as nails" Szymanski was playing his usual game, moving the ball well and hitting the packs hard. Jess “On ya Bike" Moschetti and his partner in crime Cub Cantwell had the wings covered.

Lewis De Fazio, fresh from Bali, showed some deft ball skills to push the ball forward, resulting in another goal.

Great ball work from the Doggies backline, had Mr Football, Archie Williams, spinning like a ballroom dancer, and Heater had another goal.

At the start of the third, the Doggies were well and truly on top, so a few changes were made.

Sammy Fairthorne was moved into the forward line with one job, "score a goal".

We didn't have to wait too long, after a great mark, a short pass to Sam O'Garey and the return pass and Sam Fairthorne had his goal.

Next, Ollie Bain, a great player all year for the doggies.

A great showy move, reminiscent of his mum's pink car and Bain had a goal of his own.

A welcome return to the ground for our ruckman, Hayden Power, after he twisted his ankle mucking around before the game proved a welcome inclusion, setting up another Flynn goal.

A great turn and snap from Maxy Jess and the Doggies were certainly away.

The fourth quarter started, and coach Cashman stacked the backline, giving the direction to do what you will, but stand strong.

It didn't take long for a goal of the year contender to build up.

Heater started in the back pocket, took six bounces and had a shot, only to be denied on the goal line.

Big Gem Hennekam was throwing his weight around up forward and with Lionel Cabello, Angus "Miracle Hamstring repair" McLure and The General KELSY up forward, the Doggies had a few more goals.

The Doggies won by a bit.

The coaches and team manager wish to firstly thank the kids, for the great effort and sportsmanship throughout the season.

They were a joy to coach, and we all had a great time.

Secondly to the parents.

Thanks for your help and support this season and allowing your kids to play and your help with match day duties.
