A magnificent morning at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve where Phillip Island Blue sitting 6th against the under defeated Wonthaggi Power was to take place.
From the first bounce, it was clear the Doggies were unperturbed about Wonthaggi's position on the ladder.
A fierce clash in the centre was taking place, with no clear winner. Hayden, Sammy O and Levi battled hard, moving the ball forward.
A few lucky bounces and Wonnie had their first major. Fierce ball getting by Henhouse, Jessie Moshetti, Cub Cantwell and Heath Bowen had the Doggies up and about. Both teams had good passages of play, with Wonnie taking an 8 point lead into the first break.
The second quarter had Wonthaggi attempting to put their stamp on the game.
Joe "The General' Kelsy, Big Al, Captain Kai and Gem "Maddog" Hennekam did their best to stem the tide. Sammy O battled well and, with Flynn Dengerink, put two goals onto the board for the
Doggies. Wonnie though, improved their lead to 18 points.
The third quarter was a well-matched quarter. Wonnie kicked the first, but the Doggie relied with one of their own. Great work by Bryce and Duke Lawrence, Ollie Bain and strong work by Maxy "The beach bum" Jess, had the Doggies still in it. A great mark in the forward line from the elusive Sammy Fairthorn, resulted in a great goal, keeping the Doggies in the game.
Coach Cashman gave the kids a good revup and asked for the first two goals in the last. The kids did exactly that. A great shot by Levi and Sammy O had the kids up and about.
Excellent defense by Zane Matthews, Riley Herbert, Archie "Mr Football: Williams and Harvey Strachan unfortunately, couldn't stop the Wonthaggi advance, and Wonnie kicked the next five goals, to run out winners by 45 points.
Best on: Al, Duke, Sammy O, Maxy Jess.
