Young Reds show grit, growth and great footy

U10 Red

On a crisp, sunny morning, Levi N stepped up as captain with late notice and delivered a rousing speech to fire up the Pups for their match up against Wonthaggi Power.

They hit the ground running, spreading out just as coach Steve had asked.

The backline stood tall all game, taking strong marks and manning up brilliantly.

Across the ground, players worked hard to get in front, showing great awareness and effort.

There was excellent shepherding as the ball moved end to end in a tenacious contest.

The team maintained their intensity all game, showing real improvement and teamwork.

A fantastic all-round effort from the Pups.

Awards: Harvey E, Leo, Mason and Sol.

U12 Red

It was turning into a beautiful sunny day as the Dogs took to their home ground to face Wonthaggi Power, led by captain Nic.

The team came out firing in the first quarter, with selfless acts and shepherding standing out.

Billy was outstanding, slotting several goals and assisting a couple more.

The Dogs were on a roll in the second quarter, moving the ball cleanly out of the centre and setting up big opportunities in the forward line to extend their lead.

Wonthaggi started the second half with the momentum, but the Dogs soon steadied and fought back.

There were strong contests through the middle, with effort lifting across the ground as the Dogs gradually extended their lead.

Reef’s incredible sprint to save a certain goal showcased the team’s commitment.

An outstanding team performance.

U14 Red

Phillip Island Red Doggies were at their home ground, playing Wonthaggi.

The Dogs played a strong game, their communication and skill throughout allowed for them to hold the lead for the first three quarters.

Unfortunately, with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Wonthaggi kicked a goal, allowing them to take the lead.

A disappointing finish for the Bulldogs, however they should be very proud of their game.

Wonthaggi - 4.6.30 defeated Phillip Island Red - 3.10.28.
