Young Sharks well placed for 2021 Victory!

Under 14s Cricket
For their first game back from the Christmas break, the U14 sharks welcomed Ollie Duggan and Charlie O’ Garey to the team.

Duke Lawrence, Ollie Parsons and Zack Hughes were also additions to the team filling in from U12s.

Korumburra won the toss and elected to bat however on the first ball off the match, George McCausland struck, bowling the opener. Korumburra fought their way back into the match despite tight bowling from Harry Arceo and Sam Bennett.

Justin Tran bowled exceptionally restricting the runs and taking a wicket. The three U12 boys (Zack, Ollie P, and Duke) were given the task of bowling at the end of the innings.

In Zack’s first over, he took a wicket by taking out off stump. Later in the over, Charlie O’ Garey ran out the new batsmen for a diamond duck. Despite Duke and Ollie P not taking any wickets they restricted lots of runs.

The Sharks kept Korumburra to 52. Jake Hughes and Ollie Duggan opened the batting, and both looked set for a lot of runs but both were dismissed for three.

Drew Fusinato and George McCausland had a partnership of 48 before George fell to a great catch on 13 runs.

Xavier Godena and Drew Fusinato saw out the rest off the innings, the Sharks leading by 13 leading into next week.

Under 16s Cricket

On a spectacular sun-soaked morning, the under 16s welcomed the 2021 cricket season with a road trip to Nerrena.
In near perfect conditions, Nerrena won the toss and elected to bat.

Opening bowlers Zac Walker and Tim Niven (8 overs 2 maidens 1 for 24) bowled a disciplined line and length, keeping the Nerrena batsmen to just 10 runs from the first 8 overs.
With the score reaching 29, Nerrena lost openers Currato (20) and Trotman (9) to a fantastic leg side catch by keeper Henry Peppard and a sliding catch by Max Arceo respectively.

The Island's opening bowlers did a fantastic job to control the flow of runs, bowling no extras and were well supported by some fantastic ground fielding by the team.

When Captain Kohen Beaumont entered the attack shortly thereafter, he too was able to control the flow of runs.
When Kohen trapped Harris in front for a duck, scoring had stagnated, and Nerrena found themselves 3 for 35 after 17 overs.

With the tight bowling and disciplined batting continuing, the game rolled on with a run rate of three runs per over.

William Peppard chipped in with 1 for 9 off 5 overs and Captain Kohen Beaumont had the best figures of the day taking 2 for 12 off 7 overs.
Nerrena's Tadgh Gannon was the pick of the batsmen.

Showing great maturity, Gannon weathered the tight bowling storm and found a way to accelerate his innings, when others were unable to do so. He ended up with a well-made and much needed 42 from Nerrena's perspective.

All in all, a pleasing day's cricket played with intensity and in the right spirit.
The Sharks have placed themselves in a strong position to get their first win of 2021.
