Staying safe online
Congratulations Xi, Amelia, Evelyn and Zac – winners of the OLSS digital poster competition.

Students at Our Lady Star of the Sea have been learning about staying safe online.

As part of a program focused on Cyber Safety and online behaviour, the students have undertaken a range of activities and discussions – based around the school values of being safe, responsible, respectful, resilient and ready both online and in everyday school life.

Some of the topics discussed with students included being an ‘Upstander’. What is your private information? Who should we communicate with? Screen time balance and reporting concerns to a trusted adult.

The school also ran a digital poster competition with the students designing posters that outlined important guidelines for their school community.

Our Lady Star of the Sea believes in a world dominated by online activity during remote learning, children now more than ever need to be supported to use technology in a safe and healthy way.

“This can be very daunting for parents and careers with limited experience and expertise,” said Principal Catherine Blackford.

“There are some excellent resources if you are seeking guidance regarding topics such as gaming, parental controls, bullying and social media.”
