Student strikers target NAB
Local climate activists, are rallying against NAB's funding of Whitehaven Coal’s expanding mines.
Local climate activists, school student strikers and new Move Beyond Coal members are rallying against National Australia Bank’s funding of Whitehaven Coal’s expanding mines as part of the national week of action against NAB.
“NAB say they are committed to net zero by 2050, but these so-called ‘climate commitments’ mean nothing if they continue to fund Whitehaven and its climate-wrecking mines,” said Jessica Harrison from Bass Coast Climate Action Network.
“We are proud to be working with student strikers on Phillip Island to tell NAB: stop funding coal!”
Joey Thompson, from Student Strike for Climate, said “Whitehaven Coal have plans to double their coal mining operations with four dangerous new coal projects – and NAB is funding the expansion. Time to put the pressure on NAB to ditch coal as soon as possible.”
Activists will be wearing red, singing songs and leafletting the public at locations in Cowes and Wonthaggi.
Monday November 7, 10am-11.30am at NAB, corner of Billson and Graham streets, Wonthaggi.
Wednesday November 9, 10am-11am at NAB, 50 Thompson Avenue, Cowes.
