Newhaven College Year 12 Cabinet has raised $7150 for the Lighthouse Foundation.

The Melbourne-based Lighthouse Foundation was selected due to its work fighting homelessness in young people for over 30 years.

Over the decades it has provided over 1000 young people with a home, sense of family and therapeutic care, run by a psychological wellness team, community care team and carers team.

The Foundation depends on generous community support to enable their important work to continue, and the Year 12 Cabinet were excited to get the whole school involved.

They held several fundraising events over the year including dress up days, market stall, hot chocolate and donuts, Junior School disco and raffled a cubby house made by the Building and Construction students.

Although some fundraising activities had to be cancelled or adapted due to restrictions and remote learning periods, the Cabinet was determined to raise as much money as they could.

The students of the 2021 Year 12 Cabinet were praised for the dedication, determination, and exceptional leadership skills they displayed to produce such a fantastic result.

The Lighthouse Foundation’s residential homes are managed by an experienced carer, and are supported by other care and clinical professionals, as well as volunteers. The average home allows for up to four people and provides constant physical and emotional support.

Lighthouse also has aftercare and outreach programs to assist young people who have moved out of Lighthouse homes to stay connected. Other programs run by Lighthouse are The Psychological Wellness Program, The Live in Care Program and The Adult Community Transition Program.
