The Bass Coast Refugee Sponsorship Group is hosting a Gala Trivia Night on Saturday, March 21 in the Dalyston Hall to raise funds for their work with newly arrived families.
It will be a Trivia Night Plus, so sharpen up your trivia skills and join them for a fun night of facts and figures, music, food, games, prizes and lots of laughs.
Money raised on the night will help the group support refugee families in the shire.
Imagine having to start a new life in a new country, with a new language.
The Al Hajj family of Khaled and Amira and their four children have done just that, having arrived at Tullamarine airport in early January 2026.
Already they have settled into their new home, planted a vegie garden, started school, Kinder and English language training.
They have come to Australia through the Federal Government's Community Refugee Integration and Support Program (CRISP).
The local Bass Coast Refugee Support Group sponsors them for their first twelve months, providing practical, material and financial assistance.
The All Hajj family - from Syria - are also supported by three other Syrian families already happily settled in Bass Coast since 2022.
They are now able to support Khaled and Amira and 'show them the ropes' about living in Australia and particularly Bass Coast.
Khaled and Amira are keen to explore their new community, learn English and meet people (say hello if you see them in the supermarket or school pick up).
