And with the pool temperature set at 32 degrees, it's a warm and wonderful way to get in shape.

"Classes are a great way to mix up a traditional gym workout with the benefits of water," explained Phillip Island Swim School's Lucas Piera.

"You'll see a big difference in your overall fitness after a few sessions.

"Because you're exercising in water, it's weight bearing. For older people, or someone with an injury, this means they can do exercises they can't do elsewhere."

Benefits of Aqua Fitness classes include improved lung capacity, support and relief for muscular systems, injuries and musculoskeletal conditions.

"It also builds core muscle strength, and the water pressure helps put less strain on the heart, by moving blood around the body," said Lucas.

The classes, which have been running for around two years, are open to all age groups and can fit up to 20.

"Our Monday and Wednesday classes at 7.45am are run by Libby Diprose, who has been in the fitness industry for decades," said Lucas.

"On Tuesdays, Kellie Talbot from Lioness Fit runs a class at 12.45pm which is a bit more dance oriented, which a lot of the ladies' love.

"Wednesdays at 7pm Victoria runs Aqua Fitness and on Monday at 7pm and Thursday at 1pm she also does a Pilates class which is extremely popular now.”

"Libby, Kellie and Victoria are all fully qualified instructors, so you can rest assured you're in safe hands."
