An army of volunteers, headed by a hard working PIFNC committee, will lead the club this year.

The Phillip Island Football Netball Club operates successfully thanks to the legion of volunteers who turn out over six months of the year.

They number at about 100 and are present at training sessions, Saturday and Sunday football, and are involved in many fundraisers throughout the year.

The volunteers carry out a myriad of tasks from goal umpires for each game, boundary umpires, water boys and girls, scorers, trainers, team managers, canteen volunteers, bar volunteers, gatekeepers, time keepers, cleaners  . . .  and so the list goes on.

Without them, the Club could not operate.

Their contribution enables the Saturday and Sunday League competition to run seamlessly on their home ground each week.

The traditional Easter Saturday match against old rivals Kilcunda Bass opens the season for both Clubs, and everyone looks forward to the day immensely.

“We are very pleased to have this match return to the Easter Saturday fixture," said Club president Chris Ross this week.

The Club is also hoping to hear good news this season in regard to new lights to light up the ground for night time training.

A grant application has been submitted for this purpose.

With 600 to 700 to accommodate on the ground each week, it is a huge juggle to cater for all teams on just one oval, and lights would make a huge difference to the time able to be spent out on the ground during weeknight training sessions.

Newhaven College has offered the use of their school oval to the Club, which has taken the pressure off slightly.
