The birthday gift that keeps on giving
Carla Cummings celebrated her 40th by planting 80 trees at Kitty Miller Bay.
When Carla Cummings told friends she didn’t want presents for her 40th birthday, her friends from Phillip Island knew exactly what to get her.
Sheppy Grebosz and Cameron Olsen purchased 80 plants through Landcare Phillip Island’s Island Bush Care program, with the trio then planting those plants in August at Kitty Miller Bay.
“I didn’t want stuff for my birthday so I told no one to get me presents,” says Carla, who lives in Melbourne.
“My friends knew the sentiment and this is the perfect present.”
None of the three had tree planted before but when they all worked together in London, “every year we’d run a fundraiser and choose different charities to give the money towards” Carla explained.
Others who have contributed to the Island Bush Care program include San Remo pre-school and Cowes lawyer Deb Leonard, in the carbon neutral program, as well as Luxe Isle clothing store in the plant a day program.
