The Growing Cambodia trivia night returns on September 9 to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort.
The Growing Cambodia trivia night returns on September 9 to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort.
Following on from the success of last year’s event, hosts LJ and Megan return, and the night promises to be a fantastic and fun evening, for a great cause.
Start getting your table together – and save the night in your calendar.
All funds raised on the night will go to the Growing Cambodia charity, which has been running for 11 years, thanks to ongoing support from the island community.
Growing Cambodia’s mission is to offer rural Cambodians an opportunity to improve their quality of life through education and health and well-being support.
Over eight hundred students are attending free English lessons at schools in four rural villages.
Lessons are conducted by local Cambodian teachers with help from volunteers. Students leaving the schools are also offered university sponsorships.
There are now 11 students being supported at various universities in Cambodia.
Growing Cambodia also provides scholarships for students to attend public school at each of the four villages if their families are unable to afford the mandatory uniforms to attend. This program has become very successful with Growing Cambodia providing over 50 scholarships to students in 2022-2023.
“Our ultimate goal is for the schools and villages to become self-sufficient with an improved quality of life for the whole of the community,” said Steve Davie, one of the founders of Growing Cambodia.
“This involves not only education, training and the development of skills that provide opportunities for higher incomes but also includes better health care, clean drinking water and a sustainable environment for the villages.
“With more funding we believe we can expand and use our model to provide an opportunity in other rural villages throughout Cambodia.”
Last year’s event raised more than $16,000 and organisers are keen to beat that target.
