We’ve all heard about the current housing shortage, so perhaps this little puss decided to take matters into its own paws.

Former Phillip Islander Ray McCasker now works in Darwin, but still has a house in Sunset Strip.

He was in Darwin when he got a call from a Bass Coast Shire Council ranger about a cat locked in his house.

A neighbour had spotted it meowing in the window and trying to get out.

The only problem was … Ray doesn’t own a cat.

Ray told the Advertiser he’d been on the island about two weeks ago, so the cat must have snuck in then, and made itself at home.

“Someone from Sunset Strip was missing their cat,” he said.

As it had probably been locked in without food and water for a fortnight, Ray told the council ranger where to find the spare key.

The ranger let himself in and when the cat was discovered, it bolted out the open back door to freedom.

Ray hopes the mystery visitor is now safely back at its own house.
