Mat Bowtell (right) and Warren Maag (left) offered their assistance in Stan Gates’ quest to find the time capsule buried in 1978 outside the Cowes Cultural Centre, using their high-powered metal detectors. Their efforts were somewhat hampered when council contractors at one stage dumped 10 tonnes of rubble on the exact area they had mapped out for searching.
