Tree trial rolled out

A hardy band of about a dozen Landcare volunteers battled stormy weather to plant trees and erect a new experimental fence at Forrest Caves on Sunday.
The property’s owners, Lara Olsen and Nic Frances Gilley, are planning to plant out the property into a wildlife wetland.
The wire fence trial is being rolled out across the island, following Landcare plantings, to protect the trees from wallabies, possums, Cape Barren geese and purple hens, which have been wiping out new vegetation in recent years, making new growth difficult to establish.
