Newhaven Primary School had the most glorious weather for its inaugural twilight festival.

After years of running their fete on the Saturday of the Melbourne Cup weekend and experiencing, rain, hail, wind and no power over the last seven years, the School Council made the bold decision to revamp the event.

A change of date to the start of the year, changing to a festival not a fete and the time 3pm to 7pm. What a winning move.

Thousands of people flocked to the festival last Saturday. The running sheet for the festival was full of local talent. Newhaven Primary School students past and present sang, danced, told jokes, played guitars and sang to entertain the crowd.

“It was great to hear from former student Esta Christensen and local Ally Rowe, a contestant on The Voice,” said Principal Sharyne Munday.

“It all sounded amazing. The performances didn’t stop all afternoon.”

For the children there was a petting zoo, show bags, soccer and AFL activities, plaster painting and face painting.

For the adults there were a variety of food trucks and craft stalls to meander through. Parents at the school organised a pop-up Thrift Shop where families donated clothes, toys and other treasures.

“Newhaven Primary School Councillors were ecstatic with the whole feel of the day and the joy this event gave to the whole community,” said Sharyne.

“Jen Carroll and Kirsty Cargill our two co-ordinators announced the festival a roaring success.

“Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this community event. Planning is underway for 2025!”
