U12 Red to re group for the finals
U12 Red v Wonthaggi
The last home and away game for the season saw the Reds travel to enemy territory and take on Wonthaggi.
This game would be a preview to our first finals game as this week’s outcome would not alter the final standings.
It was evident from the first bounce that Wonthaggi were here to play, and it would take our best to beat them.
The opposition hunted the ball in packs and worked for each other while the Reds seemed to be a bit flat footed at times.
We had opportunity to score late in the first quarter, but the ball would just not bounce our way.
The start of the second quarter looked promising as the Red’s seemed to switch on only to be swarmed by the opposition who relished the tough contest.
Ry Sheers tried everything in the forward line and provided a great option.
The ball spent the majority in our half, but we couldn’t find a way to goal.
Zane Larsson led by example in the third quarter and would not take a backward step, imploring his team to go with him.
Our tackling and pressure improved but the dogs could not quite put it together and find a way to score.
High hopes for the final quarter were quickly squashed as Wonthaggi kicked the first goal and opened up a handy lead.
Denver Preddice Firth played a great quarter, covering plenty of ground and never giving up.
The lack of voice on the ground was evident today and sure the team will work on this during the week.
Best on ground Taj Piera played a huge game and seems to be getting better as the weeks go on.
Archie Robinson kicked a long-range goal on the run nearing the end of the game in what was a great solo effort.
Not the team’s day today but plenty to learn from the game.
Heads high, Go Pups!
Best: Taj Piera, Zane Larsson, Callum Chambers, Ryan Hughes, Jaxen Marshall and Flynn Riley.
Goals: Archie Robinson 1.
